Signs of Termites

Termites in the United States are said to have originated from China and Japan way back during the last few months after the World War II. They were believed to travel through the crates used by militaries to transport their equipments back and forth the country. Since then termites have become a bane in the existence of most Americans, particularly in most termite-infested states such as Texas, Mexico, Florida and New Orleans. It is still and ongoing battle against the tiny but highly destructive insects that have caused billions of dollars in damages every single year. This is a very distressing reality that must be given more serious attention and aggressive measures, if we all hope to keep a tight lid on the rapid reproduction, propagation and spread of termites across the states.

The main advantage of termites over people is their ability to survive and thrive undetected for several years. This is the most exasperating power of termites over human beings - their capability to wage an attack right under our own noses! Since people are unaware of their presence, they feed on the wood structures and most people will not be able to notice the damage until its too late. A lot of people would readily admit that they are quite ignorant as to what to look for in finding for signs of termites in their homes. Being vigilant and aware is such a powerful tool when dealing with termites and would effectively help in nipping them at the bud, so to speak.

So what are the signs of termites that you should be aware of? The most obvious signs of termites in a particular building structure would include the swarming of many winged adult insects. These are actually fully developed termites that would leave their nest in order to form a new colony. Another noticeable signs of termites are the pencil size mud tubes that are usually constructed along the foundations and walls of the building. It is also advisable to pay particular attention to mud that is protruding from cracks and crevices and the hollow sound of wood when tapped is certainly sure signs of termites inside.

Early detection and prevention is still the key factor needed when dealing with the pesky termites. Although the eradication of termites is relatively easy, it can hike up the cost of a professional pest control companies when the population has reached such an alarming number. This would naturally require massive fumigation and would even require home dweller to vacate the place for 3-5 days.
