Portable Water Purifier Works Wonders In Emergencies

There are many locations and many situations in which a portable water purifier can come in handy. Emergency services often use them to provide potable drinking water during power outages when the traditional source of water is unavailable or in remote areas without a municipal water supply. Many people will also use a portable water purifier when they go camping to make sure they have plenty of healthy water to drink to remain hydrated while off the civilized path.

It is one thing to carry a water filtration device on a camping trip and many times they will come in handy to keep sediment from roiling creeks and streams from falling into a canteen. However, a portable water purifier will insure the water used for drinking is free of potentially dangerous bacteria. While many people use purification tablets that can kill nearly all of the dangerous living creatures in the water, a portable water purifier will also usually serve as a filter as well.

There are small devices that are fitted into the lids drinking cups, powered by battery, that serve as a portable water purifier to help keep one glass of water ready to drink at all times. These devices will take about 30-minutes to purifier the contents of the cup, but the taste will be much better than water purified by chemical tablets.

Big Help During Natural Disasters

When a tornado rips through a community it can be days, and sometimes weeks before the electricity is restored and the community's water purification plant is back in operation. In these cases, disaster services groups often bring in a portable water purifier large enough to handle the needs of the affected community. They can also rely on portable water filters if they have to pump water from a nearby lake to make sure the larger impurities are removed from the water before it is passed through the portable water purifier.

There are many different types of purification methods used in a portable water purifier from reverse osmosis to chemical treatment. In addition, ion charges can be used to help bring small particulate matter together to form larger impurities that can be removed by filters.

Purification is needed with filters as small as .01 microns to insure that the majority of harmful bacteria has been removed from the water by the portable water purifier before it can be safe for human consumption. Regardless of how clean the water may appear, many of the hazardous impurities are too small to be seen with naked eye.
