Moreover, bacteria such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia can cause serious illnesses if ingested by people through their drinking water.

Another unpleasant effect of contaminants in water is what is termed as “hard water.” This means that water contains high levels of certain minerals, especially magnesium and calcium that can add to the scale of mineral build up. In turn, this mineral build up can decrease the efficiency of water-using appliances such as laundering machines.
