VA Disability Benefits

The United States Department of Veteran, or VA for short, offers a wide range of benefits to the Nation's veterans, service members, and their families. The VA disability benefits are provided to compensate and assist veterans along with their survivors for disabilities and deaths in relation to military service. There are two VA disability benefits available and both programs pay monthly benefits to disabled veterans. They are Disability Compensation and Disability Pension.

Disability Compensation

One of the VA disability benefits that our veterans can get is the disability compensation benefit. The VA can pay you if you are at least 10 % disabled as a result of your military service. If established that you are a military veteran with a service-related disability, you can automatically qualify for over $ 2, 393 in monthly benefits. These benefits are paid to veterans who have injuries or diseases that happened while on active duty or were made worse by active military service.

VA disability compensation benefit is also paid to certain veterans disables from VA health care. All of these benefits are tax-free. The amount of basic VA disability benefits paid ranges from $ 112 to $ 2, 393 per month, depending on how disabled you are. You can also be paid additional amounts if:

§ You have severe disabilities or loss of limb(s)
§ You have a spouse, kid(s), or dependent parent(s)
§ You have a seriously disabled spouse

Disability Pension

This VA disability benefit can pay you a pension if you are a wartime veteran with limited income, age 65 or over, and you are no longer capable to work. Many veterans of wartime service are completely not aware of the fact that if they are 65 or older and on a limited income they may qualify for VA disability benefits, particularly VA pension without being disabled.

You are eligible for this benefit, if:

§ You were discharge from service under other than dishonorable conditions, and
§ You served 90 days or more of active duty with at least 1 day during a period of wartime.
§ You were permanently and totally disabled
§ Your countable family income is below a yearly limit set by law.

The amount that you will receive from VA disability pension is the difference between your countable family income and the yearly income limit which describes your situation. The difference is paid in 12 equal monthly payments rounded down to the nearest dollar. For example, your annual income is $ 5,000 and your income limit is $ 10, 579. The difference between income limit and annual income divide by 12 months, your monthly pension check is around $ 464.
