Applying For Free Individual Health Insurance

The only free family health insurance plan that covers some things for adults too is Medicaid, which is designed for families that fall under the one hundred fifty percent of the Federal Poverty level in household income. This can be a big help to those families so that they can get medical coverage for their kids to have regular check ups, immunizations, dental care, and other health care. It will also help to cover pregnancy care for individuals that need it and other medical issues, plus it will help with prescription drugs which can be incredibly expensive.

For families that do not fall in this bracket to be eligible for Medicaid, but who are still living beneath two hundred percent of the Federal Poverty level for household income, there are now free individual health insurance plans available in most states where there were not any in the past. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources has been pushing states to provide health care for children in families that fall within this income bracket. They make too little each month to afford the exorbitant health care rates, but are working hard to provide for their families.

Applying

Individuals who have a family of four and have a combined household income of under thirty-four thousand dollars are usually eligible to apply for the free individual health insurance plan provided by the state. This free individual health insurance plan will not cover the entire family, but only the children who are under the age of eighteen. Each state has slightly different requirements for eligibility, but most will have the eligibility requirements posted on their website along with a downloadable application form and check list for the individual to use.

When filling out the application, they will have to answer a lot of questions about their income, budget, and will be required to give proof of income from all sources. In addition, they will have to list all children under eighteen living in the home and will be required to give a copy of their birth certificates to prove their ages. Once all the proof has been submitted, the state will evaluate if the children qualify for the state's free individual health insurance plan. In some cases the individual will be required to pay a small amount of money for the plan based on their income, which is still significantly less than the amount they would pay a private insurance company.
