The EBay Revolution

Much buzzword has revolved around eBay for some time now. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has a segment devoted to featuring the various stuff found in eBay. Many have altered their career paths in marketing items on eBay. If you don't know just what eBay is, read on and you'll see just what the whole "big deal" with eBay is.

At its most basic eBay is operated and managed by eBay Incorporated, and is an online shopping and auction website where millions of internet users could sell or buy wares, easily, within the confines of their own homes. As an international entity eBay has localized websites based in various countries all over the world, with its main website based in the United States. Also eBay owns two giant internet entities, the Skype internet communications line of software products, as well as PayPal.

The core concept of eBay is quite simple and basic. Let's say you have an item you don't want to have, but know that simply throwing it away would be rather unwise as the item boasts a particular price value. You actually have the option of selling that item, but the question would be to whom. With eBay, you could easily "auction" that item, and see if there are any persons in the world interested in buying it from you, making your whole desire to get rid of that item a profitable one in your part. Anything could be found being set on auction on eBay. From consumer electronic products, which don't necessarily have to be in working condition, to even the boxes, again boxes, of popular gaming consoles, the many items on sale on eBay are simply as diverse as the millions who visit eBay auction websites. From functional items, to knick knacks, all these classes of items could be found in eBay stores.

Computer programmer Pierre Omidyar founded eBay in San Jose, California on the 3rd of September in 1995. It didn't brand the eBay name then, and was named AucitonWeb. From humble beginnings, it is noted that the very first item sold on eBay was that of a laser pointer, which was broken. The eBay item sold for $14.83. Omidyar made it clear to the winning bidder that the item wasn't in working condition, and got an email reply stating that the winning eBay item bidder was a collector of broken laser pointer.

By 1998, eBay officially went public, and has been a strong "selling and buying arena" in the world since then.
