Avoid Losing Your Audience - Five Mistakes To Avoid When Sending To Your Opt-In Leads

E-mail marketing done correctly will generate hundreds of leads and build your customer database. It can increase your profits and find your targets. We will look at some common mistakes made with e-mail marketing.

1. Sending one long message to hundreds of people will backfire. If you do not have a targeted list, you need one. If you do not want to spend the time or money on a targeted list, you will soon change your mind. If you send a message that does not target a specific person or need, it probably does not offer anything to your audience and will be quickly deleted when received. You are better off to send several small-targeted e-mails. When you do this, you can monitor which are effective and which you will not use again.

2. What types of lists are you using? Did you spend couple hundred or 300-400,000 e-mails? If you have, you will soon find this method is sure to fail. The e-mail addresses on that list probably are no longer in service. You may find a few that will be receptive but in the end, you will lose money this way. Let us not forget to mention that there is a strong possibility that those names were obtained unethically and if you use those names, you will be held liable. To break this down: you will have spent a couple hundred dollars on a majority of e-mails that are not valid and most likely obtained unethically. This is not the best decision to improve your financial picture. You will be better off if you take the time to purchase a highly targeted list from a reputable business. Add this to the list you compile on your own and you will be pleased with the results.

3. Do you have any methods in place to measure the success of the e-mails that you sent out? Have you sent thousands of e-mails and you have thousands returning but you do not know how it is affecting your rate of investment? It is important to have a systematic measurement in place. With this in place, you will be able to use your time wisely on the responses that are truly interested instead of sorting through thousands of e-mail leads that may not be interested.

4. What is your goal or strategy? Do you have a clear picture of what you are trying to accomplish with your e-mail marketing campaign? Your first goal when sending out your opt-in leads is to establish trust with your target audience. They need to know that you are a credible business person. Your second goal is to pique the interest of your target. Dangle the carrot in front of them so to speak. Next, send out your e-mail marketing messages on a regular basis. Do not be sporadic with your campaign. If your target audience hears from you three times in a week then does not hear from you for a month you will fall off their radar and your competitors will snatch them. Remember the reason you are marketing through e-mail is to generate leads and sell your products - focus on this to be successful.

5. Is the message you are sending boring? If you want to grab your prospects attention, do not send a long message that is repetitive. If you e-mail does not address a concern that your target has they will delete it. This may take a bit more time on your part but you will be rewarded for your efforts. Take time to research what it is that your targeted audience needs and set up your e-mail appropriately. Do not spend the majority of the e-mail talking about you. Spend the majority of the e-mail talking about their needs. By the time, they get to what you have to offer you have convinced them that they need your products and/or services.

In conclusion, you want to remain focused on what your target audience needs. You want to convince them that they need your products and/or services. You want to grab their attention. You do not want to put them to sleep with a long, boring e-mail. You do not want to send a generic message to thousands of prospects. You do want to spend your time and money purchasing highly targeted lists.
