The mere thought of knitting would probably conjure of those homey images of granny sitting on her favorite chair and whiling time away busily stitching up those cute baby booties or bonnets for her favorite grandson. While this is a more likely image, the art of knitting is far from being outdated trend despite the emergence of a host of entirely modern sewing methods. In fact, knitted clothes and even accessories can be readily seen worn by almost everybody, even those glitzy Hollywood celebrities as well as top designer labels who never fail to incorporate knitted items in their fashion collection.

While one cannot fully pinpoint the exact origin of the art of knitting, historical accounts suggest that the oldest known remnants were some pairs of socks, originally done in nalebinding method, which is quite similar to that of the contemporary method of knitting. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the art of knitting have been extensively taught to all family members in the Scottish Isles, as warm sweaters at that time were popularly worn to ward off the cold when going fishing under some really harsh weather conditions. In fact, the Scots primarily designed the cable stitch and the Fair Isle techniques that are still widely used up until today.

Many of us have no qualms of wearing a knitted shirt or dress as in its always considered to be always in fashion. However, only a handful has truly caught on the knitting bug. If you are looking for a constructive hobby to pass time on lazy weekends, then you can seriously consider learning the intricacies on the art of knitting. A lot of people claim that this particular craft seem to have a relaxing effect, and doesn't take too much concentration, which means you can easily do your stitches while watching your favorite soap on the boob tube. What is more appealing the very fact that there's actually no need for you to spend too much to get you started – a pair of nimble hands and a heavy dose of patience along with a ball of yarn and a knitting needle would work out fine. Of course, you need to look for a simple knitting pattern to help you get acquainted with the joys and rewarding craft of knitting.

So while buying a piece of knitted shirt always presents a wonderful addition to any wardrobe, wouldn't it be more fulfilling if to know you are actually wearing your very own masterpiece. Once you develop a knack for it, you can easily create customized sweaters for your loved ones, or experiment on different styles to accentualize your interior decors and give it a heavy dose of those homey country feel to it. The possibilities are ready quite endless when it comes to knitting, and if you have the time to unravel it yourself, then you might just find a highly fulfilling pastime that you have been looking for.
