Who Should You Investigate

Online, you are likely to find advertisements for cheap background checks. On a television commercial, you may see the latest in listening devices for sale. Just about everywhere you turn, it seems that we are being coaxed into investigating those that we know. As fun as it sounds, is it really a good idea? In most cases. In fact, did you know there are certain people you should investigate to an extent? There are, but who?

A roommate. It is common for college students and single adults to share an apartment with others. Many times, a friendship is first formed, but those in a bind turn to strangers. Before getting a new roommate, especially a stranger, an investigation should be performed. Ask for references personal and professional references. Make sure a roommate is not only safe to be around, but able to pay their share of the rent.

A romantic partner. In today’s world, you can never be too careful. There are instances of both men and woman disappearing after meeting an online date. Before meeting anyone from the internet or before starting a serious relationship, know as much as you can about that person. Are they married? Are they lying about their job? Only an investigation will tell.

A fiancé. Starting a new relationship with a person you do not know is risky, but marrying that person is definitely not a good idea. When two people enter into a marriage, they share more than just love. They share the good and the bad. For you, that may include a significant unpaid debt that your fiancé didn’t share with you. So, protect your best interest and your children, if you have any, by first investigating your fiancé.

A business partner. Many Americans dream of starting their own business. Due to financial restrictions, most cannot turn that dream into a reality without a partner. If you need to have a business partner, choose wisely. Don’t opt for a friend just because they support your idea. What if that friend has a history of unpaid bills, poor money management, or worse yet a history of theft? Whenever money and reputation is involved, investigate first.

A new employee. Many small business owners make a costly mistake. That mistake is not having a solid hiring practice in place. Many started from nothing, so they want to give others the opportunity to see success. This is a great moral theory to use, but are you willing to take the chance with your business’s profits and reputation? You shouldn’t be. That is why an investigation is necessary.

A daycare provider. Out of all the people that should be found out about and investigated, daycare providers are the most important. Children are the world’s most precious possession, so they need to be safe and at all times. If you are a parent, never send your child to a daycare center or in-home daycare without first performing an investigation. Just because a provider acts nice at a schedule appointment, it doesn’t mean they will be the same behind closed doors.

A new tenant. Landlords come in many different formats. There are those who rent apartments for the sole purpose of turning a profit and those who rent one home just to keep it in the family. No matter how many properties you own, you need to choose your tenants wisely. Do not rent to someone who has a history of unpaid bills, numerous complaints, filing lawsuits against previous landlords, or someone who has a lengthy criminal record.

The above mentioned people are just a few you should investigate. Essentially anyone who has an impact on your home, your children, or your finances should be investigated. This includes your teenage daughter’s older boyfriend, your part-time handyman, and a new neighbor.
