The victim has to stay on his toes each day to make sure no further advantage has been taken against him. Thus, the victim must monitor is banking accounts, credit reports and any information linked to him each day.

Next, you will need to link to the Federal Trade Commission Consumers site and file a complaint, alerting the government that your identity was stolen. Once you complete the complaint, make sure you follow the case closely and report any new defilement to the authorities. You will also need to contact the credit bureaus and alert them that you identity was stolen. Read all the information you can about identity theft, since some states place Freezes on your credit accounts preventing access to anyone accept you. Other states only permit Fraud Alerts, which do nothing for the victim; however, the alerts stay on the reports about three months unless the perpetrator is continuingly using your identity.

Generally, when family and friends steal your identity it is often easier to catch the perpetrator, however if your identity is stolen online there is no guarantee that the perpetrator will be caught. The World Wide Net is one of the easiest places for criminals to steal or luring victims into a web of crime and hate. Millions of people each year fall into the hands of identity thieves. Unfortunately, the most of these people rarely see justice.

To protect your self after you have become a victim of identity theft you must continue to watch the activity going on in your life, including any financial accounts. Most likely, you will find it difficult to get credit, since rarely does creditors consider victims. Therefore, prepare to save money for your future and if possible keep the money in a safe place or else in a newly open banking account.


Furthermore, identity theft victims should continue to change their passwords and PIN numbers at random to prevent further crimes committed against them. If you have access to the Internet and visit the sites online frequently, make sure you erase all traces of your activity immediately after you have left the sites. If you order online, make sure the sites are secure and that you destroy any traces of your information immediately by clicking the Tools at the top of your Internet page and clicking Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Clear History. You can also perform this action by clicking Start at the lower section of your screen and click Control Panel and Internet Options.

Finally, you will also need to protect your computer with Spyware programs and Virus programs.
