Steps In Fighting Identity Theft
If you are not a victim of identity theft then there are steps you should learn to prevent the crime from happening to you. Victims of identity theft often suffer ongoing stress throughout their life when they become a victim of identity theft. Identity theft is one of the worst if not the worst crime anyone can commit against you. Thus taking the right steps is essential to prevent the crime from occurring.
Steps to prevent identity theft should include avoid giving your information out over the World Wide Web. If you plan to order an item online make, sure, the site is secured with encryptions and that your privacy is protected. When ordering online make sure you read the terms and conditions, searching for the term privacy and security. If the terms and conditions does not clearly state that your information is protected and will not be sold, leased, or giving to other services then you know the service provider is clear of privacy. Still, do a background check at the BBB or Better Business Bureau site to make sure the site is trustworthy. You will also need to check the level of security. Many sites nowadays clearly state that the site is secured. Some sites may claim the site is protected with ‘128-encryptions,' while other sites may have higher encryptions guarded the information distributed on the site. Look for the lock and key at the bottom of the page of the site also, and note in the search engine if there is an‘s' behind the http. In other words, https:// is a secure site and more so than the sites that only have the lock and keys at the bottom of the screen.
Furthermore, if you plan to order online and made sure that the site is secured, next you will need to delete your cookies and the Internet connection history, since information can leak. To do this after you have placed the order and closed the site, go to your Internet Options tab located under Tools at your Internet Browser. Click on the Internet Options and click the Delete Cookies tab. Next, click the Delete Files tab, and make sure when the popup box exposes itself that you check the little box that asks if you want to delete the files ‘offline.” Next, you will click the Clear History tab and then click close once the procedure is finished. You can also go to the Start button located at the bottom of your screen, click Control Panel, Internet Options and carry out the instructions from there.
Extra measures can be taking, such as purchasing Window Washer, which will automatically erase any connection you made with the World Wide Web. Finally, you are clear; however, you will need to do this every time you order online. Also, avoid giving our your phone number or other information online at Blogging Boards, Bulletin Boards, Popup Forms and so forth to avoid problems. Last, but not least do not forget to download the Free tools software provides you to protect your computer from hackers, crackers, spies and other nasty criminals. Microsoft has a free download Spyware tool that will help ward off criminals from invading your computer and stealing your identity. Maleware, Grayware, Spyware, Adware and other harmful contaminates are spread out abroad the World Wide Net daily and these sources make it easy for anyone to gain access to your computer. I recommend never storing person information over the Internet if possible.
If you are at an ATM machine, store, or other service provider, which requires use of your Debit or Credit Card make sure no one sees when you type in the PIN number to make the transaction. If a clerk asks for your social security number or date of birth from a pharmacy, bank or other source politely, tell them that you do not give out that information loudly so that others can hear. If they insist, refuse and talk with the manager. Finally, conceal your personal information at all times, making it difficult for anyone to gain access to your identity.
