Surveillance And The Law

Surveillance systems are not only designed to catch people committing illegal acts such as robbery or vandalism, they may also be used to catch those doing wrong in other forms. A lot of people, however, fail to realize that this could constitute as an illegal activity, and they could be the ones in trouble, not the person cheating. One must take caution when spying on someone.

Listening devices, hidden cameras, and GRS tracking systems will all allow the user to keep up with the activities of their spouse. There is also software programs that can be installed on their PC. In no way is it illegal to purchase items that can be used to monitor the activities of another person or persons while they go about their daily business.

It is illegal in some cases to use these products to spy on others without their knowledge. It can be especially illegal if you hire someone to use the equipment on your behalf. They could possibly violate wiretapping laws. These are a set of strict laws that prohibit certain uses of programs and methods to monitor electronic communication in the form of emails, chat rooms, telephone calls, cell phones, etc. When planning to purchase surveillance equipment from a local store or online, you'll often notice that most of these places present disclaimers that note that the products are not to be used for illegal activities. This offense can be serious and constitutes jail time in most cases.

In fact, most surveillance product manufacturers clearly state that their products are not to be used in an illegal matter. These products also make mention that the person buying these products is the sole person responsible for the way these products are being used. Caution should be taken when purchasing or using this equipment for personal uses. The use of surveillance equipment while useful can be dangerous if the person is not familiar with the laws that surround this field. When trying to extract information or watch the activities of someone, it is first a good idea to make yourself familiar with the laws that protect some people from these actions.

Logging into a website with your spouse"s password and username without his or her knowledge and consent is also viewed as an unlawful activity. So is it still a good idea to use surveillance equipment to watch over my spouse ? The answer is no. Too many privacy laws ban people from situations in which they will likely be found while trying to monitor their spouse.
