A home garden is a place to relax and enjoy what nature has to offer. The problem with some gardens is that they require quite a lot of attention and maintenance. A lot of attention is often necessary for a full time garden which is why a lot of busy people who do have small gardens like to have low maintenance home garden plants. Home garden plants that do not require a lot of tending or attention are the solution for people who like to have a garden but do not have enough time to maintain it.

There are several kinds of home garden plants that can be left to fend for themselves with just a little amount of watering and attention. A home garden plant that requires not a lot of attention can be a god send for a busy person who wants to have a garden in spite of a limited amount of time to tend to it. Organic gardening is not for such a person since there are a lot of things to be done when thinking of going into the organic way of cultivating plants.

Black Eyed Susan

This type of low maintenance home garden plant has blooms that look like a small sunflower or daisy with a black center. This home garden plant can actually be a shrub that can reach up to a meter or two in height if left unattended. This may be the only maintenance that the home owner will need to do with it, pruning the plant at least twice a month to keep it in control. This perennial is good at spreading and can be planted at one end of the garden and can be expected to spread after just several months. Other than being a low maintenance home garden plant, the black eyed Susan also attracts birds and butterflies.

Ground Cover Plants

The creeping phlox is a home garden plant that usually stays low to the ground and is often called a ground cover plant. It is excellent for planting as a border around trees, bushes and also pathways. As soon as this home garden plant is established, it can be left to fend for itself. Other types of ground cover home garden plants that are low maintenance are pink everlasting and the bearberry plant.

These home garden plants can propagate on their own as well as be tough and drought resistant when the home owner forgets to water them. They do need sunshine to thrive which is abundant in a home garden.
