Growing Grapes-How Long Do They Take?

In the past few years we have noticed a constant increase in grape harvesting popularity. The reasons though can be different. Different people will be drawn to grow grapes as they are really tasty and the entire activity can be really enjoyable. Different people grow grapes only for producing wine. This can be for personal use or commercial use. You do need to know the time that is needed to grow a grape variety where you live even before starting planting.

Different species will require different times needed to grow the grapes. You first have to decide what your intents are with growing grapes. That is are they for personal consumption or for making wine. Both purposes will require different grapes species that take different amounts of time to grow. So we need to say that your first step needs to be narrowing down variety lists that you are considering to grow. If you want to grow your grapes for both wine making and, at the same time, consumption you will need 2 types of vines and they have to be planted separately. These varieties are unique and cannot be used either ways.

The second factor that you need to consider is what type of a climate you can offer to your vineyard. If you live in warmer places then a lot of possible grape varieties can be chosen as most of the grapes love warm weather. However, if you stay in colder regions then it limits your choice to a select few varieties that can grow in the cold weather.

Another important factor that affects harvests is the types of diseases and infects that can affect the grapes. Conduct adequate research on the various diseases that a grape plant may have and the insects that can harm your harvest. It is always better to be well prepared with adequate information rather than rushing into any venture and regretting later on.

Grapevines usually take 3 years in order to produce consumable grapes. However, different varieties can also offer juicy grapes in around 2 years. Grapevines generally live for nearly 70 years, so once your crop is ready you can keep getting grapes for generations to eat.

Ideally you should first choose a grape variety that will grow well where you live. As soon as you figure out a variety that you are comfortable with you do have to start working on research. Study about the diseases that may affect it, the insects that are harmful for it, the soil it needs, ask how long does it take to grow grapes in that soil type, the conducive environment for it etc. All the info can help you prepare properly when you get it before you start and all problems that can appear will be dealt with really quickly.
