Never make the mistake of planting other plants near grapes. They all require specified space so that they flourish well.



It is highly important to build proper trellises because grapes grow in the form of grapevines. Trellises are of various types. Grapevine supports stands out as their most important function. The trellises that are the strongest should use gauge wire.



Grapes do require constant pruning when dormant. The most popular of all methods is the Kniffen four cane method. In this method two canes of each plant are kept on either side of the plant. After this older canes can be cut off. Kept back canes should have around 10 to 20 buds and around the same diameter. Don't chop off the renewal spurs. Leave about four renewal spurs on each arm with a few buds.
