Dendrobium Orchid: Adding Vibrant Colors To Your Home Garden

Dendrobium orchids are well known for their lovely colorful flowers. Originally from the Himalayan Mountains and lowland tropical forest of Asia, the dendrobium orchid is one of the most adaptable species of orchids. It thrives well on hot conditions and blooms well during the summer months and hibernate during the winter. If you are new to growing orchids and you want to add a lot of colors to your home garden especially during the summer, consider adding some dendrobium orchids into your garden. Dendrobium orchid care is not so complicated so even if you are not a very experienced gardener, you will most likely be able to coax your dendrobium orchid to grow and bear lovely flowers.

Getting Started

There are plenty of species of dendrobium orchids so it best to get familiar with these different species before you start buying your plants. To get to know more about the different types of dendrobium, go online and launch a search. Study the different types of species of dendrobium carefully before you buy any of them. As much as possible, go for those species that bear smaller but more colorful flowers. These types of species are known to be more adaptable and hardy than those species which produces bigger flowers. To make your garden look more colorful, choose a variety of species.

Caring For Your Plants

Most types of dendrobium orchids do not grow very big so you do not need a lot of space for your plants. What your dendrobium orchid needs is a lot of sunlight so you need to make sure that your home garden gets enough sunlight during most parts of the day. If only a portion of your garden is well exposed to sunlight, consider moving move of your plants to the other side of the garden and put the dendrobium orchids in the area that is exposed to the sun. On the other hand, if you have an indoor garden, it would be wise to put your dendrobium orchid near the window. You may also install artificial lighting to help your orchids grow. Remember that without enough sunlight, dendrobium orchids will not bear many flowers or worst; it could start looking pale and sickly and then die.

Like most types of orchids, the dendrobiums do not like too much water so make sure that you do not put too much water on your plants. If you live in the tropics, watering your plants once a day is enough. On the other hand, if you happen to live in colder areas, you do not need to water your orchids daily.
