Be Well Equipped With Great Information On Garden Hedge Plants

Garden hedge plants are available in many different sizes and shapes from small and rounded to conical and tall. Some hedge plants can be as tall as 25 feet while others are less than a foot. The final desired look of a garden hedge is a key deciding factor on the type of hedge to plant. The plants come in either deciduous or the evergreen type that maintain their foliage the entire year. When used for screening or shielding, these are better because they will still serve the purpose even in winter. The one drawback in this is that the snow gets very heavy on the branches and sometimes causes them to break and therefore cause the hedge to die slowly. Because deciduous hedges cannot die during winter because they shed their leaves, they cannot be used for screening purposes.

Garden hedge plants can exist in any part of the world. To create a formal and symmetrical look, hedges are trimmed or they can be left rugged and natural for the opposite effect. The desired result and purpose of the hedge should inspire the decision regarding the type of hedge to plant. Some people use hedges to keep away animals and the hedge in this case should be thick enough to ensure the animal does not pass through it. They can also be used for marking boundaries and separate property that belongs to different people. Other garden hedges are used to cover unsightly sections of a garden that need to be hidden or to act as wind blocks. Understanding the reason for getting a hedge is important to ensure that the right type of hedge is planted.

Shrub hedges are preferred by many gardeners. The fact that birds make their nests on top of these hedges is one of the reasons why. They are also thick enough to ensure small animals or pets such as rabbits do not pass through. Rabbits and squirrels are known to use the inner parts of hedges to build their nests because of the protective shield they offer. Many gardeners prefer shrub hedges in order to attract animals and birds, which add on to the beauty of the garden. Shrub fences do not leave patches on the fence and therefore act as a very good fence or screen for privacy purposes. To ensure that the shrubs maintain the desired shape, they can be pruned regularly and the height to which they grow can be as high or low and required.
