Water Or Green Thumb? Hydroponic Grow Kit

Generally, when one thinks of growing plants or starting a garden they think of purchasing the seeds, planting the seeds, nurturing and cultivating the ground watering and eventually reaping a harvest of vegetables. However, not all people who want to grow their own fresh vegetables have the luxury of available ground to utilize.

Examples of an individual or family who does not have this option are those individuals who live in an apartment, condo, studio apartment, etc. However, for these individuals there is another option.

That particular option is to grow vegetables or a garden through the use of hydroponics. Therefore, it is important to know what hydroponics is, what a hydroponics kit consists of and how to shop for a hydroponics grow kit.

What Is Hydroponics?

In order to understand hydroponics, it may be beneficial to know what the literal translation of hydroponics is. Specifically, hydroponics is the combination of two Greek words. Those two Greek words are hydro and ponos. Additionally, hydros, in the Greek language means water and ponos means work. Therefore, the literal translation of hydroponics is water work.

Subsequently, hydroponics is a growing system for plants and vegetables that utilizes water rather than soil. In addition, rather than the root system drawing its nutrients from the soil, the root system of the plant gathers the needed nutrients from the water.

Advantages Of Hydroponics

Subsequently, there are many advantages associated with the use of hydroponics. One of those advantages, because soil is not required, is that the growing of vegetables and plants can be accomplished just about anywhere. Additionally, the hydroponics grow kit can be utilized indoors and artificial lighting can be utilized as a sunlight replacement.

In addition, because soil is not used, there are no weeds to worry about. Therefore, cultivation of plants utilizing hydroponic growth is minimal and less time-consuming.

What A Hydroponics Grow Kit Consists Of

Generally, if an individual is beginning their journey with a hydroponics grow kit, they may want to start with a hydroponic starter kit. Often, a starter kit is the best way to begin any hobby or adventure because the investment is minimal and it allows for the individual to understand the process on a smaller scale. Also, through the purchase of a smaller scale hydroponic starter kit, the individual can determine, at a minimal investment, whether this route is one that they wish to pursue.

Generally, a hydroponics grow kit consists of the following components. Those components include a growing bed, a reservoir for holding the treated water, the liquid nutrients, seeds, air pump and water tubing, cover for the unit and a water level indicator.
