Decorating your home is more than throw cushions and paint. Foliage and plants add life to your home. The best indoor plants for your home are plants that are not only easy to care for and maintain, but also play a role in the overall air quality of your home. Many tropical indoor plants help in air purification. Some of the best indoor plants that fall in the category of easy maintenance and air purification are; Chinese Evergreen, Pot Mums, Gerbera Daisy, English Ivy, Corn Plant and Bamboo Palm to name a few. These plants are relatively easy to grow and easy to maintain. Needing the simplest of indoor care these plants make the best air purifiers for removing Benzene, Carbon Monoxide and Formaldehyde.

What are These Chemicals?

Formaldehyde is present in many things. It is found in many indoor environments and is present in many things. One example is pressed wood products, such as mass produced furniture or office desks and tables. Another example of things containing formaldehyde are objects incorporating UF resins, objects such as facial tissues, grocery bags, wax paper, clothing with permanent press, and adhesives in carpet backings. UF resins are used as stiffening agents. Recently some scientific research has even linked long term exposure to throat cancer.

Benzene is a solvent and is used in many common products such as paint, gasoline, inks, oils, and plastics. Benzene exposure is irritating to your skin, eyes, and can cause breathing difficulties. It has been linked to leukemia, embryo complications and is a carcinogen.

As you can see we are indirectly and directly exposed to items that have these chemicals in them or a part of them every single day. In some instances we may be exposed to trace amounts of these chemicals for years on end and never have any equipment to facilitate filtration. When all we needed in our workspace vicinity is an indoor house plant or two that is best suited for the job.

General Indoor Plant Care Tips

Some of the best indoor plants need very basic and simple plant care which includes;

Partial sunlight exposure, some light from the sun for only 2 to 4 hours a day is sufficient. In some cases artificial light is sufficient enough to substitute.

Water, plants consume water at different rates, however other factors such as humidity in the home and general temperature can and will dry the soil quicker as well as the foliage of the plant.
