1. Reel/cylinder

* This is the most common type of mower; you will also find that there are many different ways that you will be able to use it too. It may have human-power or it could be combined with an internal combustion engine. Basically, it works by using rollers with blades

2. Rotary

* This is where you have rotary blades cutting the grass. Often, these are powered by an internal combustion engine, but you can get some that are eclectic. This type of lawn mower will not collect the grass clippings. You will need to let it lay or you may need to bag the clippings up.

3. Ride-on

* This is a nice type, because you will be able to ride around the mower while it cuts the grass. You will find that this is one of the easiest ways of cutting the grass, because it doesn't take much energy for you to drive the mower around the yard. You'll find that they have several blades so that you can cut a much bigger area.

4. Hover Mower

* This type of mower does hover over the ground to cut the grass. You will find that they may look like a joke, but they do a great job for big projects and also for tall grass areas. They are even able to cut things like shrubs because of their ability to hover.
