A Garden With Just A Plant Pot Container

A lack of space or green space in your home doesn’t mean that you can’t have a garden. In fact some of the most creative gardens have sprung from plant pot containers. With the right plant pot containers you can have a beautiful garden with very little effort. The key is in choosing the right containers; the wrong containers can easily put a damper on your plans for a container garden. The materials and size of your pots need to be decided upon to ensure that you have proper containers.

Size Of Pot

The size of your plant pot container is relative to the size of the plant that is going to grow in it. A too small plant pot container will stunt the growth of your plant and all its potential to be a beautiful plant. If you are growing something like bamboo then you will need a bamboo plant container that has plenty of space for this fast growing plant.

The shape of your plant pot container is also important when you are choosing a pot for your container garden. The opening is very important as this is where your plant will be growing out from. Avoid plant pot containers that have narrow openings, they might look pretty but they are impractical for this purpose.

Cheap plastic plant pot containers are sometimes used in container gardens but these have a tendency to disintegrate when left in the sun for too long. Terracotta pots are also another popular type of container and while they do look pretty they can dry out quickly, moisture for your plants dries out too. The best type of plant pot container that still looks nice but won’t have problems with exposure to sunlight is probably the glazed ceramic variety.

The capacity of the plant pot container that you use is something that needs to be taken into consideration when choosing a container. A general rule when trying to find suitable containers is that it should have a minimum capacity of 15 quarts. The deeper the roots of your plant go the bigger and deeper the pot, the number of plants in one container also determine the size.

Plant pot containers don’t always come with proper drainage holes. You can remedy this by making your own holes or adding more if you feel the drainage holes are inadequate. The drainage holes should be about a half inch across. You can stop any soil loss with a lining of newspaper at the bottom of your plant pot container.
