Successful Flower Plant Pot Gardening

Growing flowers in pots might at first seem boring; in fact this is far from the truth. With the right flowers and containers you can turn flower plant pot gardening into a very interesting and satisfying pastime. Once you have chosen your flowers and containers there are other things to sort out, such as what type of potting soil to use and so on. This is a good introduction to gardening and is also a great way to garden if you have space restrictions. You can even choose a plant that is not a flower for this type of gardening.

Getting Started

The very first thing that you will need is a good container for your flower plant pot. Size does matter in this department, the bigger your container the better. You need lots of room for the roots of your flower plant pot to spread out and grow. Good drainage is also important as without it your plants will suffer from trapped moisture. So make sure that there are adequate drainage holes at the bottom of your container.

The kind of potting mix that you use is important when it comes to flower plant pots. If you want to extend the period between watering then consider buying a ready mixed potting soil that has water holding crystals in it. Other soil mixes have a slow release fertilizer that can be useful if you don’t intend to put any fertilizer in your container.

Flower Design

The way you layout your flower plant pots is important as the wrong design can look unattractive and you will feel like all the effort you went to was for nothing. There are different ways to go about designing your flower plant pots. You could go with a formal look or an informal look depending on your tastes and your home.

For a formal look use only one type of flower and have the flower plant pots grow in a mass. If you would like a less formal look then go with different heights, colors, and varieties of flower plant pots. The color palette you choose is also important in determining the look of your flower plant pots.

Choosing one color achieves a monochromatic look. Alternatively all pastels can be a very pretty effect, perfect in early morning sunshine. If you would like a brighter look then choose flower plant pots with bold hues for a vibrant look. The possibilities are endless and with a little thought you can have a beautiful garden.
