Using A Bamboo Plant Container

Think of bamboo and you think of a dense grove of bamboo. However growing bamboo indoors is possible when you choose the right bamboo plant container and the right variety of bamboo. If you intend to grow bamboo as an indoor plant then look for a mini variety. This type is suitable for corners of your home, ledges, even tables. If you would like a dramatic backdrop to a room then black bamboo might be a more appropriate choice. The aesthetic appeal of bamboo is important so choose a species with leaves and stalks that you think look pretty.

Traditional Containers

Any picture or painting of bamboo in an Asian setting will show bamboo plant containers made from ceramics. Celadon vases are traditional bamboo plant containers, as are red Chinese pots. However the shape and material of bamboo plant containers is not restricted to these types. You can use any container with obtuse or straight sides. This is important to support the plants properly, it will also allow for transplanting if you decide to grow the plants outside later.

While a narrow opening might complement the shape of the bamboo it’s best to avoid a bamboo plant container with a narrow opening. You want something with a wide mouth. A very stylish bamboo plant container is to use a clear glass container. This type of container will allow you to showcase the roots of the bamboo plant. The roots, that are white and delicately curl, are just as attractive as the stalks and leaves of the bamboo.

If you choose the glass container then you can also add other decorations to your bamboo plant container to make it look more interesting. One of the additions could be colored pebbles, colored sand, or even marbles. The type of soil in your bamboo plant container is also important for your bamboo plant to flourish. A good tip is to plant your bamboo with some potting soil above a layer of stones and sand. The stones and sand are for drainage purposes to keep your bamboo from getting waterlogged.

Most varieties of bamboo require some humidity to stay healthy; bathrooms and kitchens are a good place for your bamboo plant container. If you feel that the room your bamboo is in is not humid enough then spray the leaves with a little water every day. This will keep your bamboo healthy. Remove any yellow leaves and you will see new growth soon.
