About My Liposuction?

Liposuction has become a very popular cosmetic surgery procedure. Yet what exactly is liposuction? What are its methods? How long does it take to recover? What is involved in the surgery and how does it attain the values highly held by cosmetics? Answering these questions could easily point to the issues that involve its popularity.

Typically done by plastic surgeons, Liposuction is generally understood as the removal of excess body fats. From the name itself, lipo means ‘fats' and the suc- in suction simple means ‘sucking out'. So in Liposuction, excess fat in the human body is removed through suction with the use of special surgical equipments. But why would people want their fats sucked out? Initially, the fats that are removed are excess or unwanted fats. Having excess body fats causes irregularities in body shape – making the body look distorted. Hence, in removing the excesses, Liposuction is able to smoothen out the body contours wherever you want to see that curve – one major reason why Liposuction is favorably called by its advocates as ‘Body Contouring'. In this sense, Liposuction aims to improve body appearance, catering to the aesthetic values of cosmetics. So that's why, but how?

Ideally, the patient must undergo initial consultation. He/she will be asked about his/her health history followed by a complete physical examination and even a psychological exam. Often there is not only one consultation session but a second consultation also follows so the patient has enough thinking-time for thorough discretion of the surgery. The presence of supporting relatives during the consultation is also advised. The patient must have the complete knowledge on the pre-operation preparations, the procedure, and the post-operation or his recovery stage, and the surgeon also needs ample reasons to determine the necessity of the surgery as well as to identify the most suitable procedure for the patient. During the consultation, the patient should be free to express his reasons and to learn about his case as much as he can.

Liposuction does not only involve the patient's desire to have a perked up physical appearance. It is greatly significant for the liposuction process to enhance the patient's emotional health or self-confidence as well rather than compromise it because of unrealistic expectations.

For all the patients to attain the highest satisfaction from the effects of their liposuction, they should consider understanding thoroughly all the details of the procedure as well as the limitations involved in the practice.
