Liposuction Procedure - How is It Done?

The operation method or the liposuction procedure to be used varies from each patient's condition and decisions. Only among the factors that affect the patient's preference on which liposuction procedure to be used are: the procedure's convenience, the cost, the duration of the operation, the location of the liposuction requiring precision, as well as the volume of the liposuction. All these affect the doctor's recommendations and the choice of the patient.

When it comes to the site, small-volume liposuction could be performed in out-patient facilities or in surgical centers and even in office-based operation venues. However, if a larger mass of fat deposit is to be removed, a patient may be required to stay in a hospital. Moreover, when the surgery does not require confinement, the patient may still need to have a ride home and to have precautions in performing daily activities. In some cases, the patient may need to avoid totally some strenuous tasks even if it is mandatory to his job. The extent of a particular liposuction procedure could as well determine the particulars of the post-operation phase. Yet, sacrifice may have to give way to the maintaining measures after the liposuction, which is in all ways necessary.

The application of pressure bandages right after the procedure helps to stop bleeding. The bandages also serve to maintain the person's body shape and to sculpt further the area of the liposuction. These must be kept in place for at least fourteen days. Additionally, the doctor needs to check on the health status of the patient time and again to monitor the patient's rate of healing, to assure the avoidance of complications, and more importantly, to assure the patient of his full-recovery from the process. The patients are then recommended to revisit their surgeons one week at the most after the operation.

The proceedings done before and after the operation are all equally essential whichever liposuction procedure is used. More or less, the following components are involved in all liposuction procedure.

The liposuction procedure includes the administration of anesthesia, which could either be a local anesthetic or general anesthesia; the process also necessitates the injection of a fluid mixture to assist the removal of excess fats, or, the liquefaction of the sediments so that it may be easy to vacuum out all the unwanted fats; and aside from the liposuction machine, specialized liposuction equipments and other medical instruments are also used to assist in making skin incisions and in cutting open some parts of the body during the surgery phase.
