To Believe Or Not To Believe In Astrology

Although today we live in an age of enlightenment, yet a large majority still starts its work after consulting their daily astrology predictions. This shows their strong belief in the science of astrology. This belief is the reason for the existence of countless professional practitioners, and other numerous amateurs working in this field.

Types of Astrology- A Reason for Confusion

According to acknowledged sources, several forms of astrology exist, but the most known ones are Vedic astrology, Western astrology, and Chinese Astrology. Most of us associate astrology to our sun signs, but the underlying reality is far from what we see in the newspapers and magazines. The reason is that this information is too generic in nature to hold any useful value.

Talking about Vedic Astrology, it generally distinguishes itself as a study of the movements of planets and constellations together with their effect on our life. As such, there are 12 zodiac signs. The concerned practitioners analyze different facets and influences of planets drawn on the astrological chart and make their predictions accordingly.

Both Vedic and Western astrology share some basic features including the concept, planets, signs, houses and general interpretations. Indeed, the only difference that sets them apart from each other is their measurement of the zodiac. As with the Vedic astrology, it considers sidereal zodiac as its base in measuring the motion of the planets, while considering the position of the stars stationary. As opposed to this, western astrology measures the motion of the planets against the fixed background of the sun on the spring equinox. Needless to say, practitioners of both the art forms keep claiming their approach to be more realistic. The sidereal astrologers simply leverage the ancient traditions to their advantage, whereas no catching up exercise has ever been performed by the western astrologers.

Sky on a zero point taken as the position of the vernal equinox on the ecliptic forms the ground for nearly all the astrologers to give out their predictions and measurements. It bears the same importance in the sky as the prime meridian on the globe, thereby recognizing the fact of ascension. It means estimating the accurate position of any object in the sky by using the zero degree of the 360-degree arc. The sidereal astrologers have optimized more modifications in the same piece of information by permitting for precession of the equinoxes. This improvement is known as ‘Ayanamsa'.

Mastering a majority of the aspects of astrology can take decades of dedicated study. Thus, predictions can go wrong. If predictions go right for you, you may believe in it, otherwise you may consider it a farce. Whatever you opinion, astrology is a science that needs learned interpreters.
