Proper Languages Of The Body

Magic Movements of the Body for Business

The body can send more than seven thousand languages. However the languages are broken down so that it can be interpreted. Some people interpret the body languages one way, while others may see things another way, yet while in business most all languages are read the same.

While communicating it is appropriate to look at person in the eye without looking down or in other directions. Yet some cultures will take offense to direct eye contact. The best bet is considering culture while speaking, thus if you feel that your eyes are sending the wrong message, thus you can redirect the eyes to make the person feel comfortable.

Some people may read crossing the arms over the chest an offensive gesture, or that you are on the defense. Still, some people may see the gesture as a relaxing position. Likewise, if you cross the ankles few people may feel intimidated while others may see that you are switching positions to find comfort. The best bet is to keep your feet balanced with your back straight and your eyes in sync with the person. This is true especially if you are selling something, or else at an interview or public meeting.

Your clothes also make a difference as to how successful you will become in public. If you are wearing the proper clothing, likely it will send an instant message to observers who will probably be ready to listen to what you have to say.

You want to avoid looking down, since some people may feel you are feeling doubt toward their topic. Looking down however in some cultures is a symbol of respect. A female would be wise to use this gesture if she does not wish to challenge a male counterpart. This is true if a debate is taking fold.

Some people believe that if you rub the viaduct of the nose that it is a signal you are doubtful and so forth. Thus, if you have an itch, carefully make note vocally to let them know you are not, doubting their words.

It is important while meeting that you adhere to the rule of thumb, i.e. keeping your words and gestures open while maintaining honesty.

NOTE: Salespeople often believe lying to the customer will prompt them to buy. This is far from the truth. I worked in the sales industry for years, and while I did not dress as a sales representative, my words and actions said it all. In fact, people told the owner that they would rather negotiate with me rather than him. Why? Because I was honest and fair, which brought a ground level company off the ground into a million dollar industry?

Yet what did my body say to the customers? Well, sometimes I wore shorts and a tank top, yet I looked the customers in the eye each time they spoke to me, debated carefully as they asked questions, and considered their needs at all times. My posture was straight while my feet balanced on the floor, and my hands moving in sync with my words. Also, sometimes I would look down as they asked a question, thus these people seem to be aware that I was thinking carefully as to what they were asking of me.

Body languages are interpreted differently by all of us. Yet, some of the expert's claim the languages to success are listed in their writing, others will tell you keep it real, natural, honest, sincere, respectful, open and you are on your way to success.
