Is A Green Credit Card For Real?

Getting a green credit card is the "in" thing these days, especially for the pro-green people and the environmental advocates. E-Commerce websites are now stuffed with products that are eco-friendly and to make purchasing of these items easier, a green credit card must be used. But what are green credit cards? Do these cards really mean it when they say they are pros in conserving Mother Nature? Is it really worth the cost?

A green credit card is actually no different from usual credit cards. No, it does not always have something to do with the color green, although most green credit cards do have a hue of green on their design. A green credit card means that it supports the international community in preserving nature, decreasing carbon emissions and helping promote environmental awareness.

To be more specific, green credit card issuers, help fund non profit organizations by giving part of the interest rates you pay. Other companies take pride of using materials that are environmentally friendly in making their cards. A green credit card company would also mean that it does not support or fund institutions that pollute the environment such as illegal loggers or dirty mining companies.

There are a handful of issuers in the world today that have embraced the optimism of green credit cards. One of these is the Affinity Card, particularly, the Red Amex Card. Their cards bear the logo of the non profit organizations that they support. Affinity Card states that half of the percentage points from the green credit card purchase are given to the non profit organizations. Even certain parts from cash advance transactions and balance transfers are donated to these organizations.

Another green credit card company is the Working Assets card from Visa. Co-Op America, a well known non profit membership organization focusing on the promotion of economic involvement in environmental protection, credited the Working Assets Visa Card as the greenest credit card in their list. The card donates ¢10 from each purchase you make. To make the donation more personal, the card even allows the user to choose a one organization out from a list of fifty.

The Salmon Nation Visa Card is also a noteworthy card that donates fifty percent of its income to the Salmon National, an institution that focuses on ecological, cultural and economic activities in the bioregions. The good cause of green credit cards, indeed, are for real. It's worth the use because you will know that part of your purchases will go to Mother Nature.
