Guitars And The Right Side Of Lefty Guitars

Guitars stand as among the most popular of musical instruments in the world today, used in various forms of musical genres, the most popular of which would be rock and roll, blues, jazz, alternative music, and country. With origins dating back to 5000 years ago, the guitar is truly one versatile musical instrument, with various classes complementing the various musical genres they are geared to play along with, or play as major musical instruments.

Guitars come in various classes, which could be easily defined by the class of sound a guitar produces, as well as the “handling” of a guitar as a musical instrument.

The two major distinctions differentiating the various types of guitars, in terms of their sound output, would be the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar. Acoustic guitars stand as the most base of guitars, and are capable of resonating their own sound, as they are designed with a hollow body, with a sound hole in which its sounds originate from. Electric guitars make use of amplifiers in producing their sounds. Further distinctions of guitar types could be defined from electric and acoustic guitars. There is the steel stringed acoustic guitar and the classical guitar, as well as the basic electric guitar and the archtop electric guitar.

When talking about the classes of guitars in terms of their “handling” as musical instruments, the two main distinctions would be the right handed guitar and the lefty guitar.

The most common of guitars would be the right handed guitars, as there are more right handed people in the world. Lefty guitars basically appear no different from right handed guitars, only that their string arrangement is opposite to that of right handed guitars. Lefty guitars are basically made for left handed people. In using a guitar, right handed persons use their left hands in dealing with the dynamics of chord arrangements, while one’s right hand is used for strumming or plucking. With lefty guitars, the string scheme of right handed guitars, which is from bass to high pitched, is set opposite.

Though most left handed players could easily do “reversed” chord schemes on right handed guitars, with lefty guitars, left handed persons could play lefty guitars as though a right handed would play a regular right handed guitar.

The presence of lefty guitars stand testament to the truly versatile nature of guitars, defining them as one of the most popular of musical instruments in the world. Lefty guitars represent the rightness of guitars, all in all.
