What You Need For Your New Baby

Congratulations on your pregnancy! If you are expecting a baby, you are probably worried about getting everything you need. After you get that positive pregnancy test, you might start to think about all of the baby supplies that you will need for your baby. While you do not need to worry about baby shower supplies, there are some things you will have to get ready on your own.

Baby Basics

Many people end up stressing over baby supplies that they do not need. There are many things that people purchase right away that they do not need. For example, you will not need to have a high chair when your baby is born—it will be a good four to six months before your baby will be able to sit in a high chair! And yet, when people think of baby supplies, they start thinking about things like convertible car seats, baby toys, and even feeding supplies like sippy cups and spoons. But the bottom line is that your baby is not going to need things like this. If you are on a budget and need to ration what you are going to purchase for your baby, here are the basic baby supplies you will need.

First, you need to figure out sleeping arrangements as this will dictate what type of sleeping baby supplies you will need. If you plan on having your baby sleep in a crib, then purchasing a quality crib will be a necessary baby supply. But if you want to co-sleep, you can save several hundred dollars and not have to purchase a crib. However, it is important to note that co-sleeping does not mean simply putting the baby in bed with you. If you choose this option you MUST read and research proper co-sleeping methods and implement them correctly. Some sleeping baby supplies that you will not need are heavy blankets, crib toys, fancy bedding, or cuddly animals. These are either unnecessary (as with the fancy bedding), or unsafe (as with the others).

A few other baby supplies that you will need are diapers and wipes. You need to decide whether or not you will use cloth diapers or disposable diapers. If you use cloth diapers, you can purchase some quality cloth diapers for about two hundred dollars that will last for at least the first year of your baby's life. Whichever one you choose, make sure you stock up on both diapers and wipes so that you will not run out in the middle of the night!
