Important Features To Include In Designs For Chicken Coops

If you’re eager and motivated to build your own chicken coop, you’ll need to work out some designs for chicken coops first. Coming up with designs for chicken coops can be relatively simple, there are just a few important details you want to be sure to include. For one thing you want to make sure there’s enough ventilation in the coop. You want proper ventilation in the coop so the chickens won’t be breathing in stale air and possibly getting sick.

To ensure proper ventilation in the coop, make sure to include a built-in fan that is going to be high enough away from the chickens that they won’t get their feathers caught in it. For people living in more of an urban area, it’s important to include a lid on the coop. It could be extremely dangerous if chickens managed to escape to have them wandering around and possibly getting hit by a passing car. If you live in a rural area you won’t have to worry so much about this but you’ll at least want to build the walls of your coop a bit higher for safety reasons.

Lighting should be included in the design as well, not only to help the chickens see where they’re going at nighttime but also to help with egg production. During wintertime when the daytime hours are much shorter, egg production often drops significantly. Have proper lighting installed in the coop and for extra convenience you can set the lighting up to a timer so it will always go off at just the right time. This will end up saving you a great deal of hassle in the long run.

Insulation helps to keep the heat in during the wintertime. In the wintertime it’s going to help keep the heat in and keep the chickens warm while in summer it will keep cool air conditioned air from escaping. Insulation is extremely affordable and easy to install so you can do it all yourself. There may be extra features that you’re interested in adding onto the coop, such as built-in heating.

Even if you have no experience in this area, designing and building a chicken coop doesn’t have to be very hard at all. It gives you the freedom to customize your coop however you want and make it most suitable for your chickens. This is going to make for some really annoyed hens and can cause them to get sick as well. With these helpful design tips you’ll be well on your way to designing and building a masterful chicken coop.
