Helpful Facts About Greenies Dog Treat

Greenies dog treats were developed in late 1990's, and are dog chew treats formulated to "control" a dog's plaque and dental tartar. Greenies are designed to have a great taste while lessening bad breath in dogs. They're the original green "smart" treat.

What are Greenies dog treats?
"Greenies" is actually a brand for a "green, toothbrush-shaped" dog treats. The treats were developed to maintain healthy gums and teeth in dogs, as well as control "doggie breath". Since dogs do lots of chewing to consume a Greenies dog treat, it helps to control tartar and keep teeth clean. Additionally, the ingredients in the treat are touted as offering bad breath control and better nutrition compared to other treat alternatives.

What are they made from?
Greenies dog treats are made using processed "wheat gluten", natural flavor, glycerin, monosodium phosphate, powdered cellulose fiber, chlorophyll, magnesium stearate, and "monoglycerides" of edible fatty acids.

What are its feeding guidelines?
Greenies dog treats are recommended for dogs more than six months old and more than five pounds in weight. It is important to feed the right size of Greenies for the dog's weight, one or two times every day as a treat.

Keep in mind that Greenies aren't designed to be balanced and complete, so must not exceed twenty-five percent of the dog's everyday diet. A dog being fed with greenies will have a "greenish" stool; this is harmless and normal, which is a result from consuming the chlorophyll ingredient of the product.

Greenies Jumbo are for dogs that are over 100lbs/45kg; Greenies Large are for dogs weighing 50-100lbs or 22-45kg; Greenies Regular are for dogs having a weight of 25-50lbs or 11-22kg; Greenies Petite are for dogs with 15-25lbs weight or 7-11kg; Greenies Teenie are for dogs weighing 5-15lbs or 2-7kg; and Lil'Bits are intended for toy breed dogs that are below five pounds, as well as less than six months old puppies or dogs that "gulp".

Are there hazards in Greenies dog treats?
There have been some issues from consumers and several veterinarians -most saying they've performed dog surgeries to remove "chunks" of the Greenies treat from the dog's digestive tract and esophagus. Nevertheless, there has not been enough information to confirm whether or not Greenies dog treat pose "greater than normal" hazard compared to other similar products.
Greenies dog treats are smart treats that reward dogs with fresh breath and clean teeth, while being deliciously enjoyable for dogs. Like any other dental treat, Greenies must be given in accordance with appropriate feeding guidelines.
