Types of Dog Treats to Satisfy Your Pups

Everybody deserves a treat every now and then, even your dogs. In fact, the term "dog treat" has been given to the wide array of treats and snacks that a dog owner can find in their local dog supplies shop. Different kinds of dog treats satisfy various needs and desires of your pup pal. Moreover, these dog treats can also aid your pup's behavior training, physical development, and dental care.

Dog treats are labeled similarly to that of "pet food" labeling, which means that it will also have a label referring to purpose, nutritional content, ingredients, and life stage. There are basically four types of dog treats, namely crunchy treats, chewy treats, natural dog treats, and homemade treats.

Crunchy Treats
Many veterinarians suggest that dry treats such as crunchy treats help in keeping your dog's teeth clean. Crunchy treats that are in bite-size are ideal for training your pup, as they fit the pocket and do not distract the dog from doing what he's told to do. The most common variety of crunchy treats includes dog cookies and biscuits.

Chewy Treats
As the name implies, chewy treats are perfect for chewing puppies. Puppies in the "cutting teeth" stage, as well as dog's developing the jaws, will greatly benefit from being given healthy chewy treats. The most common chewy treat is rawhide, which is made from a cowhide's inner layer –it provides the "chew" that will satisfy your dog's natural chewing urge, and offer dental care benefits.

Natural Dog Treats
Most natural dog treat are chemical-free portions of cow, pig, or bull. The treats vary in degree of chewiness, designed to exercise a dog's jaw, clean their teeth, and satisfy the chewing need. These types of treats are usually high in fats and proteins. Lots of natural "baked" treats can be bought from dog treat bakeries and shops.

Homemade Treats
Another great option for dog treats is homemade treats. Some dog owners prefer baking their own treats for their dogs from dog treat recipes available in the Internet and books. This is often a rather easy, healthy, and inexpensive option to treat your dogs. On the other hand, there are also available homemade treats sold in dog food bakeries, or you can buy a pre-baked or dog treat mix that you can bake yourself.

Dog treats are great ways of providing your dogs with healthy snacks. Whether choosing chewy, crunchy, natural, or homemade dog treats, the goal is ensuring they meet your pet's nutritional needs.
