The History of the Killer Dogs, the War Dogs

Anyone who knows his history can tell that there is such thing as killer dogs, or war dogs, or that do really had existed. These dogs are bred for the purpose to kill, prepared (by starvation) for such function, and released against ranks upon ranks of enemy. And the effect is remarkable though lethal, because attack formations exclusively made of dogs can unhinge even the most solid phalanx formation. These killer dogs, gigantic molosians (now extinct) are the forbearers of today's molosers including the rottweilers. And several accounts of English armies, too, used killer dogs as weapons of war: transporting them in cages half starved that they would attack any being (especially horses) on sight.

The effect of these killer dogs on enemies was awesome. Moving very fast and hardly can be hit by arrows, the only way to engage this type of enemy will be by sword. While susceptible to weapon damage, the mass scale of killer dogs will be enough to scatter and severely demoralize a battalion of foot soldiers. And these dogs, due to hunger, will often attack with complete disregard, sometimes feeding directly from fresh killed corpses, while regrouping soldiers watch nearby. Like most wolves, these killer dogs attack the hamstring of horse and bringing them down, making these dogs effective counters for knights on horseback.

Medieval ages also made use a lot of these killer dogs, war dogs. Since wars come lesser during this era, these killer dogs ultimately have to spend some time with their breeders on cages and being fed. This also mellowed out the fiery trait of these breed, seeing that they can be fed without having to hunt. Out of this crop of killer dogs came more docile breeds, typically of mossoler and mastiffs. And some of the dogs where then raised inside courts, as pets to the royal family and acting as protectors. In fact, there have been several accounts of killer dogs accompanying its master to war in which he or she will participate actively.

The characteristics of these killer dogs are large and powerful, with well muscled bodies. They normally can be trained as pack oriented, to be used as guard dog or royal family's personal bodyguard. But for the purpose or war, killer dogs are confined; their predatory instincts are heightened by starving of and then fed with live prey. They are shunned of human contact, limited only by their captor's feeding of them which they won't be getting enough. During the war, they are towed away using chains or their cages are drawn into battle where they will then be released to the enemy ranks prior to the advance of the army.
