Natural Dog Food

Preparing your Own Natural Dog Food

What goes in your dog's mouth is their primary source of nutrition, whether it is good or bad. From table scraps to the highest quality brand dog foods, the list of their food source goes on. The advancement of technology has also been the biggest contributor of the flocking array of dog foods. But are these commercially branded feeds really the best ones for your beloved pets?
Recently, numerous safety issues have arisen concerning the posed dangers of commercial pet food. These so called issues have prompted pet owners to consider preparing natural dog food instead. Natural dog food is not only safer and healthier for your pets but is also easier and more convenient to prepare. Here are some guidelines to consider in preparing a more natural dog food for your pets.
Dogs are carnivorous. In simpler terms, they are meat-eaters. With this concept in mind, you should start with meat. After all, meats are packed with protein which also happens to serve as one of the primary nutritional needs of your dog. Choosing the freshest meat is always more preferred. Buying from meat processor plants or from the butcher directly is more ideal. This way, the meats are fresher and can be bought with better prices. You can even request the butcher to cut or grind the meat accordingly.
Lean beef, beef liver, beef heart, stewing meats, boneless roast or steak are more preferable and are considered healthier. The shank, leg of the lamb, boneless stewing lamb, or lamb butt can also be good alternatives. Fillet, thigh, and skinless chicken breasts are also more nutritious foods that are not only tasty but also healthy.
For healthier, safer, more natural dog food, you can also select a couple of vegetables to add. The best vegetables to include in your dog's meal are pumpkin, cucumber, zucchini, carrots, yams, beets, sweet potatoes, parsnips, broccoli, and squash. These vegetables are enriched with the necessary vitamins and minerals for better growth and development. Again, the fresher ones are better.
Lastly, when you don't have time to prepare natural dog food on your own, you can check for holistic or organic pet foods on your local pet stores. However, always remember never to assume that something that bears the veterinary seal will always be safer for your dogs. This is not always the case. The tendency is that they will even cost more and do less. So, preparing a sumptuous natural dog food will always be top-notch. Not only because is much healthier but also because it cost less.
