Yorkie Dogs: The Lovely Lap Choice

Have you seen those bluish and golden long-haired dogs playing joyfully on the show rings? If yes, then you probably have spotted a yorkie dog.

The Yorkie dogs are actually known by the name Yorkshire Terrier. Several stories have it that the this canine breed first appear on the scene early in 1800s. It was developed from the breeds of Skye, Manchester Terrier, Dandie Dinmont, Paisley Terriers and the Maltese. It is first known as the Scotch Terrier, but was later named as Yorkshire Terrier when it was brought to the Yorkshire region in England. Following the introduction of the Yorkie dogs in the land of the Britons, the breed was recognized in 1886 by the Kennel Club. It was also during that time that the first line of Yorkie dogs were brought and introduced to the United States.

The Yorkie dogs are known by their masters as the "ratters". They are called as such for the fact that they scare away rats who are trying to bite small children at night. They are often spotted guarding the small kids, with one of them lurking silently at the head of the bed, while another one is lying at the foot of the bed, appearing like small guardian angels.

By nature, the Yorkie dogs are territorial dwellers. They want to have their own respective places, but such spaces must be respected by those who are around them. This is also what makes the Yorkshire Terrier pretty independent and sometimes assertive. Perhaps what's nice to know about them is that they make a good companion not only for small kids, but also for other pets.

Speaking of companionship, it is typical for the Yorkie dogs to show affection and sweetness to their masters. Many animal experts have in fact said that a breed of this kind requires a higher level of human attention and companionship than other breeds. And, because of this, don't wonder when your Yorkie dogs demand you to carry them on your lap all day. They are known as the lovely lap dogs, after all.

What further makes the Yorkie dogs adoring other than its positive characters is its unique appearance. Physically, they have solid feet and legs covered by their long and hairy coat. Their coat is so fine and silky in texture, and unlike the other canine breeds, their hairs grow continually. They are single coated and shed only lightly. In addition, they appear so lovely on the show rings because of their blue and golden tan colors that emerge as they mature.

Today, the Yorkie dogs are sold anywhere in the world for homing purposes. They are also trained carefully and properly as by nature they don't like to be ignored.
