Letting Go Of A Relationship

Letting Go of a Relationship

All through different relationships that people come across with in their lives, there are always those in their past that did not work. And nearly everyone have had at least one such relationship that they could not let go of. The one they feel that got away, but should not have, or the one they believe was true love yet just wouldn't work. More often than not, people find letting go of a relationship such as these, is something truly difficult to do.

To a lot of people succeeding in terms of career is essential, but in the same way as being fulfilled and content in a good relationship. When they find it, their happiness knows no limits; however when it ends, they go through a range of feelings such as sadness, grief, anger, depression, and despair, slowly drifting and feeling lost. When this happens, the first step to recovery is letting go.

Letting go of a relationship that meant everything to a person, is not the simplest thing to do, but it has to be done to move on. A person can't survive in the present and look forward to the future if they do not put closure to the past. Letting go of a relationship means letting go of feelings, dependency, fears, contact, sense of failure, idolizing the relationship, and generalization that because your ex hurt you or cheated on you, the next relationship or partner will end up the same, these are issues that needs to be overcome to truly be able to let go.

So how does letting go of a relationship essentially help a person's ability to move forward and take on "greener pastures"? Well, the fact alone that a person clinging to his or her ex's memories and "what could have been" creates resentment and guilt that becomes a factor for ones personal depression and sorrow. Moving on is very important for a person to actually make the next relationship work or simply be able to be happy with his or her own life, lingering on the past will hinder ones openness towards the "next best thing" that comes along and lose their chance for happiness once more.

Remember, it always takes two to tango, the same way that it takes two to make a relationship work, so liberate yourself from the thoughts of "what you could have done" and "what you failed to do", instead think about the lesson it has thought you, you learned something that will put you in a good stead for the journey ahead.
