You can often hear that from people you seek advice from. Be warned: people only say that when they have nothing else to say. Yes, other people give good advices. Nevertheless, really, other than the members of the pep squad in your high school, who in their right minds could stay so peppy all the time?

People will always have their highs, but then they will also have their lows. When they are feeling like they are at the bottom of the food chain, there is no way they would be happy campers. When people feel low, their brains get muddled and they could go no further in improving themselves.

The world would be such a better place if only everyone is optimistic. Nevertheless, that would only ferment in one’s imagination – imagining ones self-becoming a Shaolin monk cum martial arts expert might be more realistic.

Thing is, everyone is entitled to be negative every once in a while. Nobody can help it – it is a big part of being human. When bad things happen to you, for example, human instinct dictates for you to think negatively. However, if you want to maintain an effective consciousness and if you have a desire to improve yourself, you have to start and try to think positively.

Determine why you think negatively

What happened to make you think negative thoughts? What had transpired for you to feel what you do? Sit down, grab a pen and paper, and start jotting down your thoughts – that always helps to organize your presently incoherent brain. Make a list if it is many. Write it all down and shelve feelings of shame or denial.

Start reversing those negative thoughts

If you feel like you are alone, you are probably not. There is always someone there for you. In addition, if there is presently none, there will be someone who will be there for you, just waiting for the right time to come into your life. If you feel abandoned, go and seek a companion. If you feel stupid, think of things you know and prove that you are not.

If you feel fat, compare yourself to the rest of the world. If you are indeed larger than necessary, see a doctor so you can start on a weight-loss plan, it is as easy as that. In addition, no, do not think, “It can not be always as easy as that”. Remember, you have to think positively.

Examine your inner self what you presently have

Take a deep breath, sit down and start mulling on who you really are. Take note of your good qualities. Remember the good deeds you have done and the good deeds done by others that have been done in your accord.

This time, jot down the good things in your life. They do not have to be big, even little things matter. Did the rose you planted last month start to grow? Did your neighbor give you a pot of stew over the weekend? Jot it all down.

Examine your outside appearance

Do you feel insecure about the way you look? Do you feel ugly? Get in front of the mirror and start finding something that looks good about you. Before you start to protest, let me say that there will always be something that looks good about anyone. Do you have beautiful hands or feet? Expressive eyes? Aquiline nose? Jot that all down.

Be thankful for what you do have

Read the list of what you do have and be thankful. Having what you do have makes you already lucky. There are so many people in the world today going hungry. Even having some bread to eat for an entire day makes you blessed. Even having beautiful balls of your feet makes you beautiful! Be grateful for every little thing you have.

Desire to think positively

You can only think positively if you really want to. Include the desire to renew yourself. Yearn for self-development and if you do it the right way, you will have it.

Remember, life is too short for a negative mentality. There’s still so many good in the world, you just have to look closely. So next time you start being pessimistic, stop before it’s too late. Stay positive! You can do it.
