2008 Olympic Closing Ceremony

At the Beijing National Stadium this year, of 2008, the Olympic closing ceremony was held. The closing ceremony is a very important time during the Olympics, as it allows all to calm down and enjoy entertainment, rather than stress about the games and titles. It is a chance for fans to be entertained, as well as the Olympians. Because the closing ceremony is of importance, the place it is held and the show performed is something that should be memorable.

The Beijing National Stadium is also commonly referred to as the "Birds Nest." This stadium was recently completed in March of 2008, and is called the "Birds Nest" because of its unique architecture. The Beijing National Stadium did not solely hold the closing ceremony even of the Olympics, but the opening ceremony, men's football, and track and field competitions were also held inside of this remarkable stadium that seats a recorded 91 thousand Olympic fans. After the Olympics, the seating capacity will be lowered back to the recommended 80 thousand.

The closing ceremony itself will certainly be one to remember as well. As the Chinese have shown in the past, their cleverness can never be outdone; at 8:08 the ceremony began. This is because the number eight is symbolic, and is to be associated in the Chinese culture as confidence and prosperity. Famous stars such as Leona Lewis, Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, and David Beckham attended and performed for thousands of entertained fans along with Kelly Chen, Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Joey Yung, Wang Lee Hom, Rain, and Han Hong, all Chinese.

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, who will be hosting the upcoming Summer Olympic games in the year of 2012, received the Olympic flag from the Mayor of Beijing, Guo Jinlong.

Any one who had watched the 2008 Olympic closing ceremony should agree that it was very bright, free, and overall fun to enjoy. It is no secret that the 2008 Summer Olympics gave China its time to shine and China did exactly that. This ceremony wrapped up two weeks of stress and headaches, highly guarded by thousands of soldiers, and China was really able to let their guard down during it. With fireworks exploding all around, over the National Stadium, the mood for happiness had been set before China passed the torch on to London. As farther entertainment, unicyclists and dancers were also present and in action, with cyclists speeding throughout the dancers, creating a whirlwind of excitement.

Amongst a huge bus with lights attached all around, with all kinds of colors, holds the British pop superstar Leona Lewis, along with Led Zeppelin's guitarist, Jimmy Page. The two sing the song "Whole Lotta Love" before a crowd of tens of thousands of people. After the song, there is a remarkably famous, David Beckham, notably the very best soccer player in the entire world, kicking a soccer ball into the air. A volunteer helper, and stander by, catches this ball. Making it quite the collectible for him and his family.

After this, the conclusion of the closing ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Olympics arrives. The bus filled with stars rides off with umbrellas attached to the side, covering spinning lights and spelling out the word "LONDON" where another stunning trial of games will soon occur in 2012. Many have said that it will be hard for London to "top" the extravagance that China held as the hosting city of the Olympics this year, but still many others believe to think otherwise.
