Coming Up With Baseball Signs For A Little League Team

As a coach of a Little League team, you should always be striving to come up with new and effective ways of teaching the kids. One of the most important processes will be teaching the kids different baseball signs. That includes baseball signs, which are used so that players on a team can communicate effectively with each other without anyone on the opposing team understanding what they're saying. After all, the most important thing is that these kids are going to have fun and not have to spend the whole game racking their brains trying to figure out what their teammates are trying to say to them.

A baseball sign could refer to anything from a touch of the hat to a slide of the foot. More than anything it's important to keep things simple. Sure with adult baseball players one sign could be to touch your hat on the left then right, touch your shirt, wipe your shoe on the ground in a circular motion and cluck like a chicken. To a child this is not only going to be confusing but ridiculous.

You want to make sure that things are really basic and that you're not going to be confusing the little ones. If you can, use different baseball signs for each different player. In particular for the designated pitcher, they should have a few of their own signs as this will make it even more challenging for the other team to guess what's going on. This is important because remember, the point is you're trying to use these signs to communicate with the team without the opposing team knowing what's going on.

To get the kids started learning their baseball signs, one of the most effective ways to go about it is to make it like homework. Even if they spend just ten or twenty minutes a night going over the different signs they will find it much easier to remember them and use them appropriately in the next game. They may want to write the baseball signs down on a piece of paper so they can keep it with them and even go over it right before a game. Kids like to keep the paper on them so that they can do a quick review before heading out for a game.

You may find that there are certain children who are finding it more difficult to remember these signs. In that case you'll want to spend a bit of extra time with them to go over the signs. When these signs are used they can have a huge impact on the game because players need to be able to communicate with their coach and each other. These are a few of the best tips on how to teach Little League players baseball signs.
