Learn Baseball Terms To Help You Communicate Better In The Game

To be a true baseball player you must learn baseball terms. These baseball terms are used as lingo in the game, to describe different moves and plays in the game. Without knowing at least the basic baseball terms, you're not going to have any idea what the other players are talking about. Of the over one hundred different baseball terms there are, there are some that are especially important to become familiar with.

Ace is a term used to describe a team's best starting pitcher, the pitcher which the coach typically puts in at the beginning of a game. The term backdoor slider refers to a pitch that is thrown which at first seems to be going into the strike zone which can make a player hesitate to swing, but then the ball veers back in and because it's such a tricky pitch it causes a lot of players to strike out. It's hard for hitters at the position they're at and with the pitch coming so fast to tell whether or not the ball will stay in the strike zone or not. Bing-bang play is a fancy term used to refer to a fielder catching a ball that lands at waist level.

Another of the most important baseball terms to use is caught looking which refers to a batter being called out on strikes. The term fungo is used to refer to a ball hit to a fielder during practice. This is one of the most basic baseball drills in practice which helps to warm the players up and get them ready for a game. A homer is one of the baseball terms that people are most used to hearing, and quite obviously signals a home run.

When the ball is hit so far that it goes past the reach of the players farthest in the outfield, it's called a homer. Pepper is another type of drill that works well to get players warmed up before a game. This is another common drill used in baseball practice which helps to get players warmed up and ready for a game. The term that is used for left-handed pitchers is southpaw.

These is just a small selection of some of the most commonly used baseball terms and there is a list of over one hundred more that would be worth learning as well. Once you know the terms you can start conversing in baseball lingo with your coach and team and feel much more a part of the game. It can seem hard to take at first with the multitude of terms there are to learn, but you'll quickly start to get the hang of things. These baseball terms help you to get along with your teammates during the game and have your best game every time.
