Camping Makes For A Great Family Vacation

If you’re looking to take the kids on vacation but you’re strapped for cash, that tends to eliminate a lot of vacation ideas. Cruises, while reasonable, aren’t so reasonable when you have to take the entire clan and the economy isn’t so good. Road trips require lots of gas and restaurant stops and plane tickets will likely cost you more than both of the above put together. A good vacation idea for the entire family that won’t cost you a lot of money is to take them camping. Camping equipment isn’t that expensive when you consider that you can use it over and over again, and all you need to buy is food for all of you. You’ll have a blast and you’ll save loads of money as you enjoy nature with your camping expedition.

What To Buy

You don’t need a lot to enjoy a good camping trip. You just need a tent, maybe some sleeping bags, though blankets will work perfectly, and then everything else is just extra. Some people like to go all out when they go camping. They like to buy propane grills for cooking, portable stoves for boiling water and making soup, pots and pans and other cooking and eating utensils, and everything else they need to completely enjoy themselves while out in the great outdoors. However, if you truly want to rough it all you need is shelter, some food and water and nature. That’s it. So it all comes down to how much you actually want to rough it and how many luxuries you want while you’re camping.

Food

Don’t forget food. Unless you want to catch, or fish, for all your food, you’ll want to take something with you. There are ready to eat meals you can buy at many camping stores, or you can bring ingredients and cook things yourself. A great idea is to buy a camping cookbook that will provide you with many recipes so that you’re not stuck eating the same things all the time. With these camping cookbooks, all you need are a few basic ingredients. This is ideal if you’re going to be hiking to your camping spot. Remember, the less you have to carry the better off you’ll be.

Water

Also, don’t forget water. You can live several days without food but without water, you won’t last very long. Take along canteens or at least a few water bottles each, depending on how long you’ll be camping. That way you can each be able to stay hydrated throughout your camping trip.

That’s all you need to enjoy your fun, and extremely fun, family camping vacation.
