Finding the Optimum Bass Fishing Tackle

Part of a good bass fishing tackle set is the type of bait to use in the water to catch the fish. The types of bait used will change depending on the time of day that the fisherman is going fishing, so he has to have a varied supply of bait in his tackle box in order to be prepared to fish at all times of day, from morning to night. Also, depending on the type of bass to be caught, such as choosing striped bass fishing tackle which is for the ocean versus on the lake, there are even more considerations to be made in bass fishing tackle.

It is usually recommended that there be at least three rods and extra line that is kept in the best bass fishing tackle supplies. There should also be different sizes of hooks depending on the different sizes of fish being sought. There are also very light fishing rods that are available due to advances in technology which normally are used with lighter line, such as only using four to eight pound test line rather than ten to fifty pound line. These rods should only be used in more heavily fished waters rather than out on the open ocean or obscure lake where larger fish are more certain to be found, needing heavier bass fishing tackle.

Types of Bait

Although professional bass fishermen do not keep live bait in their bass fishing tackle, it is an alternative to use when bass fishing. It is an especially good way to help a child to be interested in fishing since it is more fun to load live bait onto the hooks. Crawfish and shiners are two types of live bait that can be a part of a bass fishing tackle box, but these are usually used on the surface of the water, such as when fishing in the mornings. Live fish can also be used but are a little trickier to tie onto the line, usually requiring that they be hooked through the lips or through the dorsal fin so that they travel through the water in a way that is attractive to the bass.

For more avid fishermen, there are other types of baits to be found for the bass fishing tackle box, such as buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, which are used in the morning to attract the fish. These types of bait are retrieved very quickly compared to others in order to make them stir up the water behind them and attract the bass. For the midday, crankbaits are usually used to try and lure the fish out of hiding on the bottom of the lake where they go during the hot hours of the day. These can be used with or without weights, depending on the time of day and location of the fishing spot.
