Choosing Wisely the Bass Fishing Tackle Gear

Choosing the best bass fishing tackle is a choice that fishermen around the world struggle with according to preference and the area where they will be bass fishing. Bass fishing tackle gear can be very complicated since there are different types of gear depending on where the fishing is going to be done, what types of bait are going to be used, and what type of bass fishing is desired. Bass fishing tackle gear in general is made up of the fishing rods, the fishing reels, the fishing line, and the fishing lures. In each of these categories there are choices to be made in choosing bass fishing tackle gear.

Equipment

There are different types of rods that are used according to the type of bass fishing that is being done. Whether the fishing is done on the lake or on the ocean, there is a choice between fly fishing and lure fishing and each require different rods in bass fishing tackle gear. Fly fishing rods are normally longer and require a different configuration in the reel and line set up, normally requiring several different types of line to be knotted together in a specific way so that the flies move in the way they are supposed to when flying to the water and landing on the water, thus attracting the fish.

With lure fishing rods, there is also the choice of using a light or ultra-light set-up, meaning that the ultra-light rods will be shorter and lighter than the light rods, usually around five feet long versus the six to eight and a half feet of the larger rods. In addition, especially in saltwater fishing, the fisherman has to decide if he wants to use live bait or not, since a more heavy duty rod is required for live bait since eels will often be cast which will break smaller rods in bass fishing tackle gear.

There are also different types of bait that can be used, especially in lake fishing situations. Live bait can be a part of bass fishing tackle gear with lake fishing, but it is not normally the choice of professionals. In afternoon fishing, bass fishing tackle gear is composed of plastic lures such as worms, frogs, grubs and crawfish. These are made of different colors which seem to work on different days and they look like the live bait of the same types. When fish are hiding during the middle of the day, there are different baits that will hang at the bottom of the lake and drag across it, luring the fish out of their hiding spots, such as crankbaits. For morning or late evening fishing, there are baits that skim across the top of the water, such as buzzbaits and spinnerbaits.
