Although the larger lakes can take some time or forever to harden suitable enough to walk over, anyone can still do ice fishing for northern pike in Michigan. As a rule of the thumb, always look for smaller and shallower lakes while waiting for the bigger ones to harden. Some species of species, including northern pikes, are active even in winter. And smaller fishes like crappies and perches are available in most small lakes of Michigan.
