Important Considerations When Buying Winter Gloves

Winter is hardly a good time to go dirt biking. However, there are still many enthusiasts who love the thrill of riding in the snow.

To make dirt biking in the winter a pleasant, exciting and enjoyable experience, a biker needs to dress up for cold weather. One of the most essential pieces of clothing is a pair of motorcycle gloves.

Today, there are motorcycle gloves that are designed for cold or wet weather. They are high tech and are made of advanced materials.

Why are winter gloves important? During cold weather, the body will circulate blood to vital organs to keep them warm. That means the extremities such as the limbs are second priority. That is why during cold season, a person feels cold especially in his hands, legs, arms and feet. But since a biker uses his hands to maneuver the bike, it is extremely important to keep the hands warm.

The key to good quality winter gloves is insulation. It is not a good idea to buy those simple fluff gloves. Ideal gloves should be made out of special insulating material such as 3M Thinsulate and DuPont Thermolite. For some gloves, insulation may not cover the entire hand but it makes the glove lighter and the biker can exercise maximum control.

While good insulation provides most of the warmth, tightly woven synthetic fabrics provides greater flexibility. Gloves that are made of Cordura are excellent. Nylon gloves are light, flexible and comfortable. In any case, a leather palm insert will protect dry hands from abrasions.

When choosing winter gloves, it is important to see if they will fit the hands snugly. The fit should not hinder blood flow. Nor should they be too loose to allow cold air to go inside. Also, the gloves should have closures around the wrists so they will lock out the chill wind.

Good gloves have articulated or pre-curved fingers. This gives a good feel and comfort. However, it is a good idea to try these gloves on and curl them over the throttle of the dirt bike. This will show the biker the sore points of the gloves as well as the limitations of the curl.

There are also expensive winter gloves for dirt biking are designed for protection. The features for these gloves include non-slip material on the fingers, protective padding around the knuckles, Kevlar reinforced palms and interior waterproofing.

So, it is worthwhile to choose winter gloves. They are not just for comfort for winter dirt biking. They are considered safety gear.
