Besides the swap meets, there are online auctions that can be utilized to get great deals on discount sailing gear. One danger with using these online auctions is that the consumer only has the verbal description and pictures that are posted on the site to go from in deciding to make the purchase. In some cases they can ask questions of the seller to help gain more clarity on the condition of the items that they want to purchase. One way to help ensure that the seller is honest is to check the ratings that he has. If it is a new seller, it is more risky to buy from him since he does not have a reputation to uphold as a reputable dealer. In addition, there are some auction sites that have an escrow account where the money is kept until the seller says he has shipped it and the buyer says he has received it.
