In Case Of Emergency: Sailing Safety Equipment

When purchasing sailing equipment for sale, it is always important to consider all of the different conditions that can occur when sailing the open seas. It is a good idea to have repair tools on hand to make simple repairs to the ship if some part of it breaks down or becomes damaged. It is also a good idea to have some basic spare parts on hand to fix things that more readily break down in the course of a sailing trip, especially when it is long distance and in open waters. In addition to these items, proper sailing attire is important to have so that the sailors can be prepared for any types of weather that may be encountered on the seas. Rain jackets, boots, sandals, boat shoes and other items are important to have along to make the trip enjoyable for all.

Other Gear

In addition to these items, all of which make a sailing trip more safe, there are more specific types of sailing safety equipment that needs to be on board to help in case of an emergency. First and foremost, a first aid kit should be kept on board at all times and it should also be checked on a regular basis so that items that have been depleted in the kit can be stocked up again. In addition so the first aid kit, another type of sailing safety equipment is life jackets and vests. There need to be as many life jackets and vests as the number of people who are on board the ship so that if there is an emergency, everyone is covered.

Besides these items, lights, horns and whistles are all good to have as sailing safety equipment. Flashlights are essential for if the sailor needs to fix something down in the hull where the lighting is not very good. In addition, there need to be strobe lights that can be lit if the boat is in trouble, making it easier for the search and rescue crews to find. Horns are important pieces of sailing safety equipment because when the weather is foggy, it is the best way for other ships to know that they are coming near to another one. This is especially true if the ships do not have a radar system to be able to see other vessels in the water when the visibility is low. Whistles can also be used to help in case of fog if there is not a horn available.

If the trip is going to be a long one, it is also a great idea in sailing safety equipment to have a bag of survival supplies. These supplies allow people to make fires, create shelter, and have some basic food for a couple days while waiting to be rescued.
