The Romance Of A Sailing Ship

When you look at the myriads of boats and ship you find across the world today you would never be able to guess their humble beginnings as wooden rowboats and as the beautiful sailing ships. We have moved on from the beauty of a wooden sailing ship to high-tech speedboats. Yachts are the ultimate status symbol and offer an unsurpassed modern luxury. However, no matter the fancy gadgets or shiny appearance of modern sea faring craft, nothing compares to the romance of a true sailing ship.

Unfortunately the only way you can get your hands on a sailing ship today is to own a sailing ship model. For many nostalgic sea and boat lovers this becomes a passion and a hobby. Collecting many different models of sailing ship, building them yourself and watching the past come to life is a passion. That is what this hobby is all about. Recreating, albeit in miniature, the romance, beauty and majesty of true wooden sailing ships, as they were all those many hundreds of years ago; therein lays the attraction of this art.

Nostalgic Love

Sailing ships may no longer be around today, but their legacy carries on in the hearts of artists, sea lovers, film makes, novelists and many more people across the globe. These people have a nostalgic love for these ships and through them the passion is passed on to others in their works. But many of the recollections of a sailing ship in novels, movies and paintings don’t tell the whole truth.

In the time they were extensively used as a way to get from one country to the next these ships were not romantic. They were very far from romantic in any way. A sailing ship was a cargo ship, carrying the fruits of trade. A wooden sailing ship was also a pirate ship, plundering, stealing and getting rich of the fruits of others’ labors. These ships saw tough times; war, slave labor and much more in their lifetimes. However, they have transgressed from their days as workhorses on the seas.

They have been immortalized in our minds, hearts and creativity. A sailing ship has been romanticized along with the rest of history to bring you what you know today as a beautiful majesty that once roamed the seas. Forever will people remember them as romantic, majestic and powerful with their off-white sails billowing in the wind, we will remember tails of heroic sea battles and carry on their legacy.
