Puerto Rico scuba diving areas

Because of the diverse Puerto Rican marine life, it's been segregated into different geographical areas, not because of its geographical positions but because of the uniqueness and distinctness of their diving environments. There are five major areas: Area 1 - The North and East, Area 2 - Culebra, Area 3 - The South East and Vieques, Area 4 - The South, and Area 5 - The West, Mona, and Desecheo.

Area 1, the north coast has few dive sites but the east coast is good for diving, with its shallow and less rough seas. Area 2 is approximately two hours off the shore and its truly an excursion to have these special dives, with ferry boats taking you from the islands. Area 3, Vieques is relatively shallow with sloping reefs surrounding coral islands. Area 4 is just a few minutes off the shore and is slowly becoming one of the recognized diving areas of the place. Area 5 is weather-dependent, Mona and Desecheo are offshore islands and need careful planning since these areas are good only in calm and good weather conditions, although there are still nice beach dives along the west coast.

So, if you're off the Caribbean coast, or if you're heading for a beach, then definitely, you'll know what to do and where to go - Puerto Rico scuba diving should be top on your list.
